Japanese dog food ingredient glossary

Common Japanese ingredient terms and the limits of using translated categories for allergy screening.

Useful category terms

鶏 and チキン refer to chicken; 牛 and ビーフ to beef; 豚 and ポーク to pork; 魚, 魚介 and named fish species indicate fish ingredients. 穀類 is a grouped cereal term, while 豆類 covers legumes and related ingredients.

A category flag is useful for search, but it is not proof that other animal proteins, processing aids or cross-contact are absent. Compound ingredients may also contain sub-ingredients that require the complete package statement.

Use the translator as a reading aid

The label translator highlights registered terms while leaving the Japanese original visible. For a serious allergy, compare the latest physical package, consult the manufacturer and follow veterinary advice.
